MESSAGE OF DAY

True friendship for the sake of Allah is two people living in the one heart.

A chronological reading is not sufficient, in itself, to learn the life of the Prophet. Those who know the Messenger of Allah best are those who adhere most meticulously to his Sunna.

Our every moment must be spent in contemplation, reflection and thankfulness, as sins are committed when Allah is forgotten.

Education is the instilling of manner and character, rather than merely transmitting information. For humanity is captivated by character and self-possession.

The scale of love is sacrifice. If we truly love the Messenger of Allah, then we must exert ourselves self-sacrificingly on his path and, in this way, demonstrate our love.

Even if you were to become like a bow from performing the prayer and like a nail from fasting, Allah will not accept that worship so long as you do not avoid the prohibited as well as doubtful things.

“If you do not live what you believe, then you will begin to believe what you live.” (‘Umar, may Allah be well pleased with him.)

Through enabling servants to realise the worth of bounties, fasting strengthens feelings of praise and gratitude in their hearts for the Divine bounties and favours.

A true believer must infuse life into every place they go and must contribute to the spiritual richness therein.

Mawlana Jalal al-Din al-Rumi states: “Labour pains constitute pains for the expectant mother, but are an escape from a dark place for the baby in its mother’s womb.”

“Whoever possesses beauty should know that it is borrowed.” Rumi

“No matter how much you know, what you say is only as much as those before you can understand.”

There is no miracle in forecasting the future of a nation. All that one needs to do to this end is to look at where the youth of that nation spends their energies.

A life spent in heedlessness is one consisting of games in childhood, lust in youth, heedlessness in maturity and, in old age, longing and remorse for what has been lost.

We must never forget that one day we will be enquired about the blessings that Allah the Almighty has graced us with.

The classical scholars of this sublime religion have also confessed that their knowledge was deeply limited. Imam Abu Yusuf was consulted on an issue by the Caliph Harun al-Rashid. Imam Abu Yusuf answered by saying, “I do not know.” The assistant to the Caliph said to Abu Yusuf: “You have a salary and you say you do not know.” In response, the great scholar Abu Yusuf said: “My salary is according to my knowledge. If it were according to my ignorance, the treasury of the state would not suffice.”

“When you become poor, conduct trade with Allah through voluntary almsgiving. Display great gratitude when you are favoured with bounty. Do not pass up the blessings of Allah.” (‘Ali, may Allah be well pleased with him.)

 If we seek the essence of Islamic morality, we will find it, no doubt, in turning to the Lord with love and sincerity, and in service, the sole mark of such turning.

The magnanimous wealthy, the people of gratitude, and the poor and dignified are together in the honour of humanity and Divine approval and good pleasure.

The way youth treat their parents determines how they will be treated by their own children in days to come.

The Blessed Companions had a great eagerness for fasting. They would make effort to perform voluntary fasts even on unbearably hot days. In spite of all of this they still continued to fast with great spiritual pleasure and delight.

True talent and health is knowing how to be patient in prosperity.

‘Ali, may Allah be well-pleased with him, states: “Whosoever sends one hundred blessings and salutations to our Prophet on Fridays, they appear on the Day of Judgement with a beautiful and luminous countenance and people ask one another in envy, “What was the deed that this person performed?”

Patience at first appears as poison to a person; however, if they make a habit of it, it becomes honey.

To my mind, my thankfulness in prosperity is more acceptable that my patience in being subjected to trial and tribulation. (Abu Bakr, may Allah be well-pleased with him.)

No matter how much you read, you are ignorant if you fail to act in a manner befitting your knowledge.

Sagacious human beings who are among the select are humble, like the trees bearing fruits that have ripened bowing their heads.

‘Abd al-Rahman al-Awza’i says: “The religiously lawful of one’s wealth diminishes, as does the unlawful. It is for this reason that what remains is the reward or sin incurred.”

There is no peace or repose for the jealous.

If we seek the essence of Islamic morality, we will find it, no doubt, in turning to the Lord with love and sincerity, and in service, the sole mark of such turning.

Everything in the universe, from cellular to stellar, is a manifestation of the Divine magnificence. For this reason, those whose minds are attached to their hearts would be astonished and amazed with everything that they see in the universe.

No matter which community a selfless believer lives in, he can always protect his faith, spirit and existence. His heart is distant from worldly possessions, status and benefits.  A selfless believer is close to those suffering and in need. He lends his heart and ears to the quiet screams of the oppressed and lonely.

The universe, with is creation, order and harmony, is an important means of drawing lesson for  those who think.

The sun of eternal happiness rises on the horizon of those who lead their entire lives in the light of the Divine commandments and who know how to pass to the Hereafter with a clear conscience.

The path leading to the horizon of maturity, which the human spirit can attain, goes through compassion and service. As for compassion and service, this is your striving to meet the needs of a needy person deprived of those bounties with which you have been favoured.

The world is a school, a place of trials, and human beings are students who are responsible for their spiritual development. The person must search for the means to improve his spirituality so that he would deserve to enter Paradise.

It is easy to reach the needy person who voices their need. We are, however, also obliged to find the indigent who cannot voice their plight and predicament.

When a person holds their tongue and refrains from speaking, both their shortcomings and skills remain hidden. (Sa’di Shirazi)

The Quran is a divine key with which any closed door can be open.

“You will never be able to attain godliness and virtue until you spend of what you love (in Allah’s cause, or to provide sustenance for the needy)…” (3:92)

Compassion is ease of conscience in this world, while it is glad tidings of endless bliss in the Hereafter.

Just as a fingerprint constitutes, in a sense, one’s identification, a believer’s contemplation and sensibility is akin to their spiritual identification.

Being certain that Allah the Almighty sees our righteous deeds sprout twigs from the branches, piety foliates its buds and reverence ripens its fruits.

In the world, the weak are in need of the powerful, the poor in need of the rich and the infirm in need of the healthy. In the Hereafter, however, the powerful are in need of the weak, the healthy in need of the infirm and the rich in need of the poor.

Humility and generosity are of the character of the noble, while arrogance is the temperament of the pitiable.

“Recite the Quran in a way that will prevent you from committing evil. If it does not do so, then you have not really read it.”

Do good to others but do not recount your favours to them, for the goodness you carry out is actually for yourself. If you do good, it is again you who will benefit from it in the end.

The most crucial aspect of one’s life is his faith. Faith must be very well protected so that one can remain standing without frailty throughout the storms of life.

Taqwa is the believer’s spiritual union with Allah; it is his manifestation of attributes such as compassion, kindness, forgiveness, mildness and perfection of the heart, as well as the seeking of Allah’s acceptance for every deed, every situation and every breath.

The true virtue is a person’s forgiving the servants of Allah when they are in a position to punish them. Becoming deserving of the forgiveness of Allah through continual forgiveness, is an indispensable horizon of belief for ideal believers.

The stream of life flows rapidly. The spring of youth is the finest season of life. But how swiftly does spring pass by! Indeed, the best acquisition for youth is to reap the benefits of this season by making the most of this vital period of life.

If we can say, ‘Allah is sufficient for me. Most excellent is He in Whom I trust’ in times of difficulties, then problems will be solved and salvation will prevail.

The provision of the people of service ought to be patience and their support, Allah Almighty. The most fundamental key to success in service to humanity is patience and steadfastness.

Ya Allah! Save us from the fate of those who plummet into this world and destroy their lives in a mere cup of water haring forgotten the oceans of the divine. You are the most Merciful!

The Prophet (pbuh) said: “The hearts of those who are accustomed to eating excessively, become hardened (hence they cannot remember Allah)”

No matter how many words pertaining to Sufism fall from the lips of a person who does not regulate their life in accordance with the criteria of the Qur’an and Sunna, that person cannot be a true Sufi.

Hasan al-Basri says, “The essence of good character is to promote goodness, not to disturb others, and to be of cheerful countenance.”

“Attach even greater importance to the acceptance and continuation of your deeds of righteousness than you do to the deeds themselves.” ‘Ali (r.a)

Muhammad Bahâ’uddin Naqshband (qs) said: “On this path the disciple should be modest. People say that why there is no long fasting and difficult worship (riyâdhah) on this path? Is there anything more difficult than attaining modesty?”
